Stupak Planned This Vote All Along

March 22, 2010 by Gerard M. Nadal

In a town hall meeting in his home district, Stupak announced that even if his amendment failed, he would vote for the health care bill.

So, if he could leverage anti-abortion language, he would. If he couldn’t, rather than force a failure on Obama and a return to the bargaining table, Stupak announced that he was not very serious about abortion all along.

Here is Stupak in his own words:

The problem is that *he* never had a problem with the healthcare bill(s) – of which funding of abortion was one of several major ethical issues. Without funding of abortion, there remained the problem of cutting existing coverage for many people who currently depend on medicare, the very real problem of healthcare rationing for the elderly, the terminally ill, and for those with chronic problems, the problem of stifling medical innovation, the problem of forcing people on pain of fines and jailtime to purchase something insurance . . . (and the list goes on). shrug. We never really were on the same page.

Extremely disgusting that Stupak purports to stay true to “his principles” & the principles of the people he represents while selling out the babies & the country. I think you would have to be a pre-schooler to think that Obama could or would modify the bill at this point to remove abortion if it had the force of law. As if someone won’t challenge it in court, if Obama doesn’t 86 it first?

I read no further than your title – this was my thought all along as this whole charade was unfolding.

    So very sad. :(

This is why I never, ever trust a liberal, even if they call themselves “moderate”, or pro-life. You simply cannot trust anything they say.

[...] Add to his ignoble company the newest Black Knight, Bart Stupak. There is much talk about the pressures brought to bear on Black Bart as a possible explanation for why he might have folded. Such well-intentioned and charitable assessments miss the fact that Black Bart has voted in the past for funding Planned Parenthood. He also stated months ago that he would vote for this legislation even if his amendment failed. I blogged on this a few days ago. Read it here. Also, one may watch the video here. [...]
