Black Knight, White Knight

December 19, 2009 by Gerard M. Nadal

There are pro-choice Catholic politicians, and then there are pro-choice Catholic politicians. Then there’s New York Congressional District 13’s Freshman Rep. Michael McMahon (D), who has garnered a 100% pro-abortion voting record during his first year in office. McMahon was elected to fill the seat of Rep. Vito Fosella (R), a strong ally of the Pro-Life Community. Fosella’s career succumbed to revelations of a love child and mistress in Virginia.

To add insult to injury, McMahon is also a member of the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal order of 1.8 million members with a strong record of supporting pro-life activities and the Special Olympics. McMahon has voted against Stupak-Pitts, against a bill to deny increased funding to Planned Parenthood, voted for public funding of abortions in D.C., and for the Foreign Relations Authorization Act, which will set up the machinery to fund abortions around the world.

There is all the difference in the world between a Catholic politician who maintains a static defense of Roe (ugly), and one such as McMahon who engages in aggressive offense in seeking to advance the cause of abortion through funding and voting down pro-life legislation (malevolent).

All evil begins with a lie. To identify the lie is to unmask the evil. The great lie of pro-choice Catholic politicians is the claim that while personally opposed to abortion, they cannot force their private morality on the public. With few exceptions, they move from a statement of static defense to a legislative agenda of aggressive offense. The truth is that they are free to work within the political machine to craft just legislation. The fact that they don’t betrays their black hearts.

To end on a positive note, these traitorous Catholics and their lies are forever rebuked by another Catholic legislator, also a member of the Knights of Columbus (53 years), the greatest of the white knights, Rep. Henry Hyde, whose pro-life legislation has become the center-point position against which all other legislation is measured. Hyde came down on the right side of history. We shall see an end to legalized abortion one day. It’s coming. These murderous Catholic politicians ought to bear in mind the words of U.S. Grant in describing the defenders of slavery, whose cause was so much like their own.

” …a cause that was, I believe, one of the worst for which a people ever fought, and one for which there was the least excuse.”

Thank you Henry Hyde for showing your brother Knights the great example of true nobility and chivalry.

So, what’s the supreme council of the Knights going to do, walk the walk or just talk the talk? To paraphrase: “the best way for evil to win is for good people to do NOTHING!”
