Sound Off!

December 27, 2009 by Gerard M. Nadal

Should the Federal Government be subsidizing embryo-destructive research considering its failure to even make it out of animal trials, while adult stem cell research has resulted in hundreds of therapeutic applications? What are your thoughts about this from a scientific, moral, ethical, fiscal, or legal perspective?

Sound Off!

Really, OC ( I”m hoping this isn’t SoMG).
So you are in favor of killing very early developing human beings so that we don’t remain poor, ignorant stupid weak creatures?
You are in favor of using humans for experimentation because of course, these very young human persons are incapable of dissenting?
Wonder what you think of the elderly, the physically challenged and so forth? Should we use them too for experimentation?

    OperationCounterstrike,

Move on. You’re not welcome here.

    afriend,

I’ve gone to operation counterstrike’s website. While I welcome dissenting opinions, I will not accept psychotic, hate-filled invective from people who advocate murder of pro-lifers. Sorry that slipped through the cracks. I’m learning fast.

I didn’t go to the website but the tone made me wonder if it’s a troll from Jill’s site. She can fill you in on ALL the gory details. But be prepared, some of these people are very very nasty…..

It’s great to find your blog, Dr. Nadal, via Leticia.

I’ve been trying to find out if any funding has been reinstated at all toward the alternative sources – ethically derived pluripotent cells. The last I had heard is that the new admin repealed the NIH Alternative Sources funding several months back . . .and with the talk of reinstating funding for the embryonic stem cell research, which is horrific, I hear nothing about reinstating the funding for the ethical work. And since we know that the ethical sources work . . . it begs the question of who exactly is putting ideology before science, as Pres Obama whined about.

My understanding is that those monies have not been reinstated, but I’ll check this week.

    Afriend,

Yes, Operation Counterstrike is SoMG. I didn’t see what he wrote, but I heard it was quite inflammatory. Actually, SoMG was my one hope for finding a pro-choicer who was also opposed to human ESCR, as SoMG believes the embryo is a human person like you or me, but justifies abortion through the bodily ownership/ bodily autonomy argument i.e. abortion is “justifiable homicide.” So I thought there was a chance, but as I learned a while ago, no.

    Gerard,

I think this http://www.firstthings.com/blogs/secondhandsmoke/2009/03/09/the-untold-story-radical-obama-also-rescinds-executive-order-for-alternatives-to-escr/ is what benotafraid might be referring to.

funny how you can ALWAYS recognize SoMG’s virtual “print” on anything he writes…….

such inconsistent logic in such a brilliant mind is puzzling…..
