Bravo Kelsey Hazzard and the folks at Secular Pro-Life for this great jab at the pro-choice euphemisms. Kelsey is running a great organization while being in law school full time. If anyone is looking to sponsor a great group of people doing pro-life work, I know Kelsey would be personally very grateful.
Hey, I really HAD a conversation much like that — my daughter was 5 and her big brother was 7 when I had our final little “choice.” I really did hang an ultrasound up on our fridge door, and told my kids it was a picture of the parasite I had inside my body.
And I called it a “fetus” until about six weeks after it was born (I admit, I was exagerrating just a bit there, just to watch people’s reactions).
But sometimes, life does imitate art. 🙂

Oy…
Biologically speaking, a parasite is a different species from the host organism whose symbiotic relationship is always harmful to the host. The development of new members of a species within the parent is NOT considered a parasitic relationship, but part of the natural life cycle of the species. You pro-choicers need to keep your tongues off my jargon 😉
Kelsey…GREAT JOB! Children are a gift!
Yes, it’s true that parasites are different species from their hosts, and it’s also true that a tapeworm is never going to develop into a human infant. No argument there!
The way I use the word, “parasite” is a metaphor for the symbiotic relationship, in which another life form is literally sucking life away from its host. And metaphors are MY jargon. 🙂
I called my children “parasites” when they were breastfeeding, too. And gee, come to think of it, now that the older ones are teenagers, the word is creeping back into use in our household.
Kelsey is a wonderful advocate for the rights of unborn children. Nicely done Kelsey. 😀
