Was “Father” Corapi Ordained?

June 18, 2011 by Gerard M. Nadal

Well, this was bound to happen. Over at Elizabeth Scalia’s blog, The Anchoress, a commenter by the name “JKM” is asserting that Father Corapi may never have been ordained at all.

This fellow claims to have been investigating for months and stonewalled by many, and that there seems to be no bishop under whom Father Corapi is incardinated. Further, it seems nobody has ever seen him say mass. Read the thread on Scalia’s blog for all of the details.

Why do I bring this up? First, it’s what is being seriously entertained by one of the most prominent Catholic bloggers out there, so it’s just a matter of time before the rumors begin.

Secondly, I bring this up because I find it an outrage that the SOLT’s have allowed this sort of speculation to brew for months in the blogosphere. If there is a member of the SOLT’s reading this, then I offer my blog for them to post a full airing of Father Corapi’s status. They have his complete canonical record, including ordinations to both deaconate and priesthood. They know under which bishop Father is incardinated. I urge the order to put an end to this sort of destructive detraction at once!

Post it here, and I’ll send it all over the Catholic blogosphere.

In the interim, I ask for any priest or deacon who would care to do so to please lead us all in a Divine Mercy Novena for Father Corapi. I’d like to get one started here, at Coming Home, by this Wednesday.

Please pray for Father, for his accuser, for his superiors, for the bishops, and for the faithful whose faith may be shaken by all of this. The long knives are out tonight for Father Corapi. Tonight, more than ever, he needs our prayers.

God Bless.

Update: Father Corapi’s Superior Speaks Out: Shocking Details.

Update 2: Many have written to tell that Father Z speaks of having been ordained with Father Corapi. I’ve never doubted that, but wanted Father C’s Superiors to speak out about his canonical status. They have begun to do so in the first update above this one.

Father Zuhlsdorf says he was ordained with Corapi here: http://wdtprs.com/blog/2011/06/about-fr-john-corapi-with-observations-about-our-times/

Fr. Z has admitted to being ordained with Fr. Corapi and with the multitude of masses that follows him (Fr. Z), I’d question this other blogger commenter for even entertaining the thought that Fr. Corapi was never ordained.

Fr. Z said they were ordained by Pope John Paul II at the same time…

All this means is that Fr. Z must not be ordained either!

    🙂

I”m pretty sure he was ordained folks. Let’s not get carried away, ok?

    Berrien,

    I am too.

I took the time last night to read some of the more prominent bloggers posts on Fr. Corapi and I have to say I”m not impressed.
I don’t agree with Fr. Corapi’s decision. I believe he’s making a mistake. But I also don’t have all the facts.
I am impressed with Dr. Nadal’s posts and with Fr. Z.
Fr. Corapi and all our priests need our prayers. It goes without saying that the devil hates them.

On a lighter note, I wish you a happy and blessed Father’s Day, Dr. Nadal! 🙂

    MC,

Thank you very much for the kind words and Father’s Day wishes.

I’ve read most of the Catholic blogosphere on this as well, and most see Father Corapi as emblematic of ________________ (fill in your pet issue here). My point of departure is that I see Father Corapi as a man who was either unjustly accused, and has understandably been driven to a sort of madness by the loss of his good name, or he has had consensual sex with a grown woman and is being held to a higher standard than laity who have committed adultery and been restored by the sacraments.

Both are vile, and truth be told I don’t see consensual sex with an adult woman as any worse than adultery. If we did to married people committing adultery what is being done to priests who have sex with adults, there would be damned fewer marriages in the Church.

Yes, I believe Corapi is making a mistake, a huge mistake, but I understand where that comes from. Bearing false witness is one of the behaviors addressed in the Ten Commandments precisely because of its potential to destroy people’s health: physical, mental, spiritual. It is devastating, and we see the effects in Father Corapi’s case.

Trust the Americans to bring up conspiracies. I have seen Fr.Corapi celebrate Mass on EWTN twice!

    Dr. Nadal,

I am disappointed that you have not corrected this posting with more than the mere comment reply “I am too.” Obviously, Fr. Z has set the record straight on Fr. Corapi’s ordination. There are enough uncharitable comments being made about Fr. Corapi among Catholic bloggers (one in particular). When a clear falsehood has been refuted, particularly one that you have “reported”, I would hope you would more clearly acknowledge that fact, perhaps in a manner as prominent as the one in which you passed that little tidbit along.

I have been to Mass where the good Father celebrated…sheesh

  13. on June 20, 2011 at 12:25 AM Erika

WOW…this has got to be the most ridiculous claim yet! PLEASE Update this post as Pope John Paul II himself ORDAINED Father Corapi. Lets keep our efforts and energy where they need to be…on our knees in prayer for ALL priests/bishops and our Holy MOther Church. Thank you.

It is quite audacious to hear people speculate that Fr. Corapi was not ordained or that he has never celebrated mass. I am glad that Fr. Z has set the record straight on Fr. Corapi’s ordination; also, I have had family members attended Mass celebrated by Fr. Corapi and I am sure there are countless others who can attest to being present at a Mass celebrated by him.

We should remember to pray for Fr. Corapi, regardless of his decision, and keep in mind that he has done great work in gather souls back to Christ and it is only natural that such adversity would face him, as he an avid promoter of spiritual warfare.

Let us not speculate about this servant of Christ; rather, pray to resolve the adversity that faces him and that he do the will of God.

I’ve seen Fr. Corapi celebrate Mass. Queen of the Universe Parish in Levitown, Pa and Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown, PA. Father’s accusers obviously never attended any of his retreats. PEACE.

My heart is breaking…it seems the devil is having his heyday! Please remember how you felt when Father Corapi touched your heart the first time and why you love him. The times we are in are scary as hell! Let’s not give Satan one more minute of pleasure with all of this. Get on your knees and pray for all priests, especially all directly involved, Mother Mary pray for us sinners and help us to not have hate in our hearts. Father Corapi I pray for your humility and your heart, I cannot imagine what you are going through….:( Please continue to pray for us, may God’s will be done.
