I met Reggie Littlejohn, President of Women’s Rights Without Frontiers in Washington DC a few months ago, and I promised this amazing lady that I would do all I can to help get the word out about her organization. This brief expose of her work to end forced abortion in China is stunning.
Thank you so much, Gerard! You are one of my heroes and I am so honored that you posted this video!
When 65% of abortions in the USA are coerced (according to the David Reardon Institute) and Americans kill 1.3 million unborn babies a year, I’m kind of wondering why this dynamic lady isn’t crusading for the human rights of American unborn babies?
Sue Joan,
I guess it’s a matter of degree. But at least in America we don’t strap women down and forcibly abort them. While there is an element of coercion here in North America it is nothing like that experienced by Chinese women. I wonder how Reardon came up with the 65 per cent. Of course, the point is that women in America CAN choose to save their babies. This is not the case in China, although many do in heroic ways, living on the run and in extreme poverty.
A very interesting book is Message From An Unknown Chinese Mother. The culture of infanticide has partially contributed to the forced abortion policy. The author, Xinran explores the tragedy of abandoned girls in China. This naturally includes forced abortions and women who have abortions because they are not carrying a male child. The stories of midwives in rural areas who drown literally hundreds of baby girls are heart-rending.
