Day Two: Novena to Our Lady of Lourdes for Jon and the Other Victims »

Day One: Novena to Our Lady of Lourdes for Jon and the Other Victims

October 11, 2011 by Gerard M. Nadal

As we gather for the next nine days in prayer, a note to our non-Catholic brothers and sisters. All faiths engage in intercessory prayer, asking our friends and family to storm Heaven with prayers in time of peril and need. Believing Saint Paul when he told us that we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses, we ask those witnesses in Heaven to intercede for us as well. The most beloved of those witnesses is Mary, whose “yes” to the Archangel Gabriel facilitated the Incarnation, and with it God’s plan for our salvation. We appeal to Mary as the greatest of all intercessors in Heaven for Jon and the other victims of Saturday’s horrific accident, and so we pray…

We gather in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

DAY ONE

O Mary Immaculate, Our Lady of Lourdes, virgin and mother, queen of heaven, chosen from all eternity to be the Mother of the Eternal Word and in virtue of this title preserved from original sin, we kneel before you as did little Bernadette at Lourdes and pray with childlike trust in you that as we contemplate your glorious appearance at Lourdes, you will look with mercy on our present petition and secure for us a favorable answer to the request for which we are making this novena.

We ask you to petition your Son, our Savior, for a full restoration for Jon’s health and for those who also survived the crash and are in serious condition. We ask that your Son send his healing Spirit to restore Jon’s body to its former health and function, that those who know and love him might know the sweetness and joy of a long and shared life as committed Christians. For today, we implore no further deterioration and the beginnings of healing at the hands of the physicians and nurses so close to your Son’s healing heart.

O Brilliant star of purity, Mary Immaculate, Our Lady of Lourdes, glorious in your assumption, triumphant in your coronation, show unto us the mercy of the Mother of God, Virgin Mary, Queen and Mother, be our comfort, hope, strength, and consolation. Amen.

Our Lady of Lourdes , pray for us.

Saint Bernadette, pray for us.

Amen.

Day Two Here.

    Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
    our life, our sweetness and our hope.
    To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve;
    to thee do we send up our sighs,
    mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

    Turn then, most gracious advocate,
    thine eyes of mercy toward us;
    and after this our exile,
    show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
    O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

    Blessed Mother of Jesus, Mother of the Incarnate Word, intercede for the needs of your Son’s servants that they might know the peace of God and the healing grace of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

    See 1Kings 2: 13-20 to understand better how the ancient Church came to see the mother of Jesus as the Queen Mother who brings our intercessions to her Son.

    A soul lives on for eternity, long after we leave this earth.

    Love lives in our hearts and minds,
    as we remember the familiar gentle smile of a loved one,
    who truly never leaves us.

    Cherish the happy memories and remember the love.
    Lift your hearts to our Lord, knowing family and friends
    are with you to offer comfort, support, and love.

    “God Bless You All” and keep your family in his loving arms.

    Our thoughts and prayers are with you always.
