Breast Cancer Risk from Oral Contraceptive Use Prior to First Birth

The graph tells the story, and comes from Chris Kahlenborn, MD. Dr. Kahlenborn is the founder of the Polycarp Research Institute, which has some excellent materials on the link between oral contraceptives and breast cancer, as well as abortion and breast cancer. Dr. Kahlenborn’s excellent book, Breast Cancer : Its Link to Abortion and the Birth Control Pill was written ten years ago and is a perfect source book for non-scientists. It was Dr. Kahlenborn’s stellar book that drew my interest in this subject and took me from DEEP skeptic to a properly educated and enlightened scientist through his presentation of all the scientific literature. Order it here.

This contraceptive fight is going to be a definitive issue in this presidential election. Dr. Kahlenborn, Dr. Lanfranchi, Dr. Brind, Ms. Karen Malec and others have written extensively on these issues, and a thorough and sustained reading of their work is going to be necessary if we are not going to be written off as religious zealots by those in the middle. The place to begin is with Kahlenborn’s book and his website. It’s an easy read for the layperson.

The individuals just mentioned, and myself, are out here doing the education, but now we need voices. Many more voices.

Perhaps many here have used oral contraceptives in the past, or are using them now. It’s never too late to learn what science and medicine are telling us, and to change our lifestyles; if not by the light of faith, then by the light of empiric evidence.

Our women are being ravaged by breast cancer, and while OC use and abortion don’t account for it all, they account for plenty.

I’m here to educate and answer questions. Let’s get going.

Faith and reason! Keep educating — this information is critical. Dignity of Person and the 5th Commandment require the proper treatment of our bodies. God bless you! I will share!

why, Why, WHY didn’t my Catholic GYN, fellow parishioner, and family friend tell me any of this stuff when he suggested the pill for cramps and irregular periods??? NaPro science NEEDS to be in every home!

My ob/gyn put me on the pill at age 20. I was a virgin but having very bad menstrual cramps. My doctor knew my mother battled breast cancer in her early 40’s yet she put me on the pill for CRAMPS. I am so mad at myself that I didn’t question, do my research or get my head out of my rear long enough to realize that this was not a good idea. I blindly accepted that my doctor knew best and that the pill was “safe”. I was on it for SIX YEARS till I conceived my first son while taking it. God only knows what damage I did to my body.

My daughters know many girls who are placed on bc for heavy periods and cramps etc.
I know many women who were placed on the pill for the same reasons, years ago.
I thank the Lord I was told by my Catholic mom never to use bc.

I also took the Pill for years as a single, celibate woman because my GYN’s prescribed it for endometriosis. Also took Lupron Depot injections. Yikes… I shudder now to think of what I did in my ignorance. Can’t unring the bell…
Thanks, Gerard, for getting this information out there. It’s particularly vital now thanks to Obama’s b.c. mandate. Women are killing themselves, slowly, and with great fanfare.

This is a great chart- secularists are in denial about the breast cancer rates linked to the Pill. I’ll be sure to keep it handy.

What would be really nice to know, if it’s possible to determine, is whether years of breastfeeding can mitigate the threat of the b.c. pills taken years earlier. What do you think, Dr. Nadal?

    Catholic Moxie,

I’m running to a busy day of meetings, but I’ll return to this later on. The short answer is that childbirth and breastfeeding reduce the number of cells that could become cancerous. So the sooner, the better. I’m not sure if there is any literature to suggest that precancerous cells might in some way be positively influenced by placental lactogen. I’ll check on that.

A timely discussion in the wake of the HHS mandate! Should the mandate survive the courts and bc pills made even more widely available at no charge one shudders to think how many more women will become statistics. Thank you, Drs. Obama, Pelosi and Sebelius!
