See 10:00ish on the video…Voris contradicts his mockery of Dolan’s marketing meme by saying “Courage” should actually be marketed better.
It’s true that we are being outmarketed, the problem is that it was preventable. There is no excuse for keeping silent.
Posing a question. How does this discussion sound to a man or woman with same-sex attraction who may be struggling to find an entry point back to Mother Church?
Charlene,
You ask a good question. Michael brings up the ministry, Courage in our discussion. I take a very pastoral position throughout the interview, taking special pains to bring up the traditional persecution of gays and not wanting to incite the passions of the latent homophobes that are in every church. I take the time to distinguish between the shock troops who desecrated St. Patrick’s Cathedral and who get all the press, and the rest of the gay community. I talk truthfully about the eternal consequences of behavioral choices, that even if the orientation were biological, gays still have the same dignity as straights: that they are not compulsively driven and choose chastity over fornication, etc.
I really don’t know what more you want, short of validation. At some point educated and responsible leaders need to discuss this issue. Michael and I are in the business of analysis and evangelization. If there are any struggling gays look up the group, Courage, and get to confession. The same goes for straights who struggle with addictions to porn, masturbation, fetishes, adultery, etc.
