Speaker Quinn

Yesterday, a Federal Judge in New York issued an injunction against the unjust law that sought to muzzle and destroy New York City’s pregnancy centers with odious mandatory signage and telephone disclaimers. The law was not enjoined in part, but in its entirety. Given the politics in this neck of the woods, that’s as clear a condemnation of New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn as can be imagined. It’s certain that she’ll appeal, but given the judge’s complete disdain for the obvious Constitutional violations, an appeal seems ill-fated.

Quinn and the bill’s sponsor, Councilwoman Jessica Lappin, both get slopped at the same trough by NARAL and Planned Parenthood, so no doubt they will go back to the drawing board and craft a new attack.

There were a great many people who fought this fight in New York, on many different levels. I shudder to name names, as there were simply so many and I couldn’t possibly put together an exhaustive list. However, here is a partial listing of people or organizations in the thick of the fight (Not all in any particular order):

Chris Bell, Good Counsel Homes
Dr. Alveda King and the National Black Pro-Life Coalition
Chris Slattery, EMC Pregnancy Centers
Chaplain Viviana Hernandez
Father Peter Pilsner
Bill Harder, Crossroad Foundation
Greg Pfundstein, Chiaroscuro Foundation
Ed Mechmen, Archdiocese of New York
NYC Councilman Dan Halloran
NYC Councilman Fernando Cabrera
The Alliance Defense Fund
The American Center for Law and Justice
Mrs. Florence Maloney
Reverend Michel Faulkner
Reverend Bill Devlin
Theresa Bonopartis, Lumina
Metro Clergy for Better Choices
New York Life Team
Rev. Donald Saddler
Mayor James Garner, Long Island Republican
Ed Farrell
Bishop Roderick Caesar
Father Benedict Groeschel
Bishop Clark
Father Gill
Father Gerald Murray
Father Peter West
Dr. Elizabeth Rex, Children First Foundation
Dr. Anne Mielnik
Deacon Greg Kandra, Currents (Net TV)
Jill Stanek
Steve Ertelt, LifeNews.com
LifesiteNews.com
EWTN

To these need to be added those I can’t recall at the moment (pre-senescence), the multitude who testified before the New York City Council, who lifted us up in prayer, who called their Councilmen and Councilwomen, and who marched and stood with us at City Hall when the vote was cast.

Most of all, God and the host of Heaven.

This fight is not over yet, not by a mile. However, this ruling represents a serious blow to this movement by NARAL and Planned Parenthood. It also is a major defeat for Christine Quinn, the angry and tyrannical Speaker who would be Mayor. This was, and remains a total team effort, with no superstars. Some have been more visible publicly, but all have poured their hearts and souls into this fight. If folks notice a name glaringly omitted from the list, contact me ASAP.

I don’t think today is a day for taking a victory lap. It is a day for recognizing the thousands and thousands of human hours spent by all who fought this fight in New York, and those who supported them, especially the families.

Most of all, it is a day to give glory, honor, and praise to our God who has been with us throughout this long ordeal in New York, and the much wider nightmare since 1973. It is a day to praise God for the good that He has brought out of this ordeal, the emergence of a pro-life community of Black pastors that is growing as we speak.

Gloria in excelsis Deo!
Et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis!

Yesterday Intro 371, the bill seeking to muzzle pregnancy resource centers in NYC, was passed by a resounding 39-9 vote with one abstention. I was there in the Council chamber and witnessed history being made. I’ll be blogging on this over the course of a few posts. There are myriad angles to this story and I’ll only touch on a few.

First, the true target in all of this was not Chris Slattery and EMC Pregnancy Centers, as some have been writing. Nor have the other CPC directors been the inspiration for this legislation. Chris has been around the longest in NYC, and while he is a hero to many and reviled by the other side, this was NOT a personal vendetta by the City Council. To suggest as much is extremely myopic and clouds our vision to the truth, a truth much more sinister than a mere grudge-fest.

In reality, similar legislation already exists in other cities, and is part of a nationwide concerted effort by NARAL and Planed Parenthood. New York City was chosen for a few reasons.

First, because we have a radical, proabort lesbian City Council Speaker who has been bought and paid for by NARAL and Planned Parenthood.

Second, because New Yorkers accept abortion rather blithely. There is not much substantial opposition in this town, where 41% of babies are aborted, so NYC was low-hanging fruit that was easy picking.

Third, New York prides itself on its liberalism. The protection of all civil rights (which is how abortion has been marketed) is a big deal here in NYC.

But all of this is undergirded by a deeper driving force for the national campaign against pregnancy centers. In a word:

Sonograms.

They’re inexpensive, and come in laptop form.

Yesterday at the City Council session, the bill’s proponents were nearly unanimous in pointing to the sonograms as ‘evidence’ that PRC’s were masquerading as doctor’s offices. That’s the cover story for the legislation, and a pathetic one at best. We are being asked to believe that a woman entering a PRC does not know that she is not in an abortion center, because there is a sonogram technician with a machine showing the young woman images of what is within her womb.

They fear the sonogram, because the technology is so overwhelmingly convincing for mothers, as it was for Dr. Bernard Nathanson. So the new strategy is to erect barriers between abortion-minded women and the machines posing an existential threat to the abortion industry, in the form of forced disclaimers at the door, in the waiting rooms, on advertising, and on the phone.

Yesterday was the other side’s most desperate hour. This piece of legislation will now go on to the courts where it will face almost certain defeat.

At yesterday’s City Council session, Speaker Quinn announced that the reason the bill was being moved up a few weeks for a vote was to enable the bill’s sponsor, Councilwoman Jessica Lappin, the privilege of being present when her pet project was passed…

… before Lappin delivers her own baby in a few weeks.

It’s been quite a week here in NYC. We had a great pro-life billboard, calling attention to the fact that 60% of African American pregnancies end in abortion, come down 24 hours after it went up. Thanks to some great thuggery by our proabort lobby, waitresses were reportedly abused in the building hosting the three-story banner simply because…

…they were waitresses working in the same building hosting the banner.

But the fun has only started for the merchants of death in fair Gotham. This coming Wednesday, the City Council is poised to pass a law that will hobble our pregnancy resource centers. So for our modern-day Margaret Sangers (Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Councilwoman Jessica Lappin) it’s a heady week. Evidently 60% of black pregnancies ending in abortion is an acceptable number for them.

Less intellectually and morally bankrupt individuals might look at those numbers and look for ways to lower them by doing things like the PRC’s do. But not our little darlings on the Women’s Issues Committee. They simply cannot permit themselves to join forces with those in the pro-life community and work toward commonsense solutions for a community beset by destructive forces that beggar the imagination.

The word is on the street now about the numbers. It will only continue to make the rounds and continue to permeate the consciences of all New Yorkers. Eventually, the rising tide of blood will drown the pathetic arguments of Quinn and company. It will become harder and harder for Quinn to explain her actions, actions made with the full knowledge of the numbers.

In politics, comedy has a way of becoming tragedy for the careers of those given to such base behavior. New Yorkers have great good sense and have a long history of sending scoundrels packing when they enter the ballot booth. That’s the beauty of our tradition of peaceful transition of power. We vote the bums out.

Better days are coming for our most disenfranchised citizens. As soon as New Yorkers have had the time to marinate in the truth, they’ll elect servants with the wisdom and decency to do what is right and just, and not what is most expedient.

Truth and Goodness will have the last laugh.

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by volcanos and volcanic eruptions. The science of Volcanology tells us a great deal about predicting an eruption, and the different types of eruptions.

Some are like Mount St. Helen where the buildup of pressure is so severe that it blows the side off of the mountain in one cataclysmic bang. Other volcanos simply ooze molten lava from their fissures and caldera in rivers that travel far and wide, spreading out and creating an entirely new landscape by burning away all in its path and becoming the foundational rock for an entirely new ecosystem.

The eruptions are preceded by increasing tremors, small earthquakes that herald the arrival of the searing newness from within the earth. Those tremors are a warning to all in the vicinity that impending newness cannot be stopped, and will clear away the most recalcitrant inhabitants who do not respect the power below their feet that is rising up to meet them.

So it has been in New York City these past months with the Pastors from a broad spectrum of Christian churches, most especially those in communities of color. The government’s data on abortion have gone out and shocked the consciences of even ardent proaborts. 89% of all abortions in New York City are had by minority community members. Only 11% are had by whites. And now the slumbering giant of the inner city has been awakened.

It began in early January with a rally in northern Manhattan, near Harlem. At that rally, I gave the numbers to a heartsick packed church. 4.3 million abortions in NYC since 1970, with close to 3.3 million being black and hispanics. In 2008, there were 512 abortions per 1000 live births for whites, while there were 1,260 abortions per 1000 live births for blacks.

One year later, the numbers for whites remain essentially the same, but the percentage of black pregnancies ending in abortion rose to 60%, or 1,500 abortions per 1,000 live births. And so the tremors began.

Since then, pastors have been meeting and discussing the impending NYC Council Bill 371, which will silence pregnancy centers. They have been discussing it in terms of the numbers in NYC. The tremors have gotten a liitle bit stronger.

Then Lila Rose released her explosive videos last week of their latest sting, and the pastors began to question why this organization, Planned Parenthood, operates 78% of their business in their neighborhoods. They have begun to question that 78% in light of the fact that 79% of all abortions in NYC are black hispanic. And they were disgusted at the aiding and abetting of child sex trafficking. And so the rumbles grew louder.

Then, the other sponsor of Bill 371, NARAL NY president Kelli Conlin has been targeted for a probe into massive financial misdeeds. God is moving in a mighty way, and now the earth trembles further.

The House voted decisively to cut Planned Parenthood’s funding in the wake of the latest in a long train of scandals, and fissures opened in the landscape.

Today, an ecumenical gathering of five priests, approximately 30 pastors, chaplains, and two protestant bishops took place. Again, I provided the numbers and discussed the science. The age-old divisions between Evangelical, Baptist, Pentecostal and Catholic have crumbled as we are uniting in our common humanity, as sons and daughters of God. Thanks to Planned Parenthood, NARAL, and the proabort politicians, we see the ancient divisions as luxuries we can no longer afford. Praise God. Next week, there will be dozens more pastors gathering to unite in a new pro-life coalition of clergy from across the spectrum of Christianity, as well as Judaism.

Today the lava started flowing, and the magma chamber of righteous indignation at the decimation of communities of color, at the wholesale slaughter of the unborn cannot be stopped. It has begun to flow, not with a cataclysmic bang, but with a steady, consuming, incremental creep across the landscape. It will consume this abortion industry as the purifying and sanctifying fire of the Holy Spirit of God continues to renew the face of our land. And this righteous indignation at the slaughter of innocents will harden, as all lava hardens. When it does, it will become the new bedrock, as all lava flows do, upon which an entirely new ecosystem will form. A just and righteous people forming a Culture of Life and a Civilization of Love.

Those politicians and parties who refuse to change will simply be voted into political oblivion, such is the power that has risen up to meet them.

When Evangelical, Pentecostal, Baptist, and Catholic clergy all unite in love and fellowship, in solidarity and mutual admiration, it’s a sign as sure as the plume of smoke rising above the mountain:

It’s all over for the proabort left. Change or make alternative career plans. The Father has united His children in opposition to you, and the mountainous divisions that have been overcome should be a sign to you of the magnitude of both opposition and unity you now face.

NYC Council Speaker Quinn

From Live Action: “Sex trafficking of minors is a Federal crime and is punishable by imprisonment for 10 years to life. 18 U.S. Code 1591”

“Any person who aids, abets, or counsels a Federal crime to be committed may be punished as if they had committed the crime themselves. 18 U.S. Code 2”

Under the law, those who aid and abet child sex trafficking are considered as indistinguishable from those who run the rings. Certainly Planned Parenthood’s behaviors in the latest series from Live Action make them as culpable as the people they understand to be sex-traffickers.

Today we see the latest revelation from Live Action, showing us Planned Parenthood in the Bronx, NY not even blinking at the presence of child sex-traffickers before them. One of the workers counseling the pimp is a clinical supervisor.

These are NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn’s friends. These are the people she takes campaign contributions from. These are the people whose legislative bidding she does as she marches on with her war against New York’s pregnancy resource centers.

There is no room left to hide for Quinn.

Either she returns all money ever given to her by Planned Parenthood and withdraws bill 371, or she will be hounded by the pro-life community as no better than the sex-trafficking pigs she supports.

Game over, Quinn.

Carl Heinrich Bloch, "The Slaughter of the Innocents", Oil On Canvas

What would I have done? Would I have had the courage to stand against the tyrannical King who ordered the slaughter of innocents? Would I have helped Mary and Joseph, or any other mother and child escape the murderous wrath of a jealous King? I’d like to think that the answer is yes.

While there are far less severe dangers today, Herod has been eclipsed by an army of bloody tyrants who walk the corridors of power today. The Democrat party gives hundreds of millions of dollars annually to groups such as Planned Parenthood, who in turn lavish millions of dollars on… Democrats running for office. Of course, the agreement is that the price of power is babies must die.

Yes, I used the imperative.

No, it’s not melodramatic.

We have long since passed some academic right to choose abortion. The field of Obstetrics brings unrelenting pressure to bear on women who might be carrying a less than perfect child. Trisomic conditions are cause for summary execution. Women and men are brow-beaten, called selfish (and worse) for wanting to bring their special needs children into the world. If the baby is anencephalic, parents are called monsters for bringing the child to term.

No, it seems that there is a mandate now for abortion. And the list of those marked as unworthy of life continues to grow. Still, for some that’s not good enough.

Crisis Pregnancy Centers and Pregnancy Resource Centers are under assault in several states, with New York City being the most recent target. Chris Slattery started EMC Frontline Pregnancy Centers 25 years ago and has over 38,000 confirmed saves between our 12 centers.

That will not be allowed to stand if NARAL, Council Speaker Christine Quinn, and former PP deathscort and bill sponsor Jessica Lappin have their way. Their legislation is aimed at driving women away from our doors. Where to?

Right into the arms of our modern day Herods.

Choice? There can be no choice if abortion is the only option. By their own admission, Planned Parenthood only concerns themselves with contraception and abortion. They refer out for prenatal care (if the baby is lucky enough to make it out of PP alive). Choice died about 20 years ago. There is an imperative now, the growing movement to silence those of us who guarantee choice by providing viable alternatives.

Chris and I will be starting a petition drive this week that I hope all will take a moment to participate in. That’s the very least that each of us can do. It is how we can stand up to the Herods of our day and make our voices known. Like the One sought for death 2,000 years ago, these children are our salvation in so very many ways.

They ground us, make us face maturity by calling us to focus on their utter helplessness. They teach us the meaning of love. They teach us redemptive suffering. They save us from eternal adolescent narcissism, and draw us closer to God.

There is so much that we can do, and some of us are fighting this particular battle full time. But we need everyone’s help with the petition. In facing down Herod, the pen does quite nicely.

So as we begin to move closer to Christmas, to the timeless narrative of the Nativity, and the story of Herod’s evil, we should bear in mind that we are all called to do something about the slaughter of innocents in our day. The thousands who staff the more than 2,300 CPC’s and PRC’s save babies daily from the senseless slaughter unleashed on us by seven twisted men in 1973. They are the frontline shields between these babies and certain death.

I don’t know what I would have done then.

I do know what we are called to do now.

The petition is on its way.
